Whether you are a fully experienced coach or someone who has recently qualified, there may be times during your work where you need to be protected against personal injury, public liability or claims against you. We all know that accidents happen and in some cases the injured person will accept this if the problem is minor. However, there may well be circumstances where the injured party will look for compensation and this is where having the correct sports coach insurance comes in.
Policies vary depending on your needs but the majority of policies cover the following;
Public Liability
If you’re unfortunate enough to accidentally injure anybody during a coaching session then you should be covered against a compensation claim made against you. This is an important feature for sports insurance as accidents happen on a regular occurrence.
Professional Indemnity
Claims made against you as a direct result of an error or mistake made by you or a form of negligence is covered. If, for example, advice you have given to someone has resulted in them developing an injury you could be liable so this part of the insurance policy covers you.
Personal Injury
If you are unfortunate enough to be injured during a coaching session and you are disabled or in the worst case, die, you are covered up to a set amount of money. This is the worst case scenario but in sports anything can happen so it is better to insure yourself against all possibilities.
Sporting Equipment
This part of the policy covers you against theft, damage or loss of any sports equipment you may use during your coaching sessions. Sports equipment can be easily damaged so this is very important to have as a part of your sport insurance. As part of some policies, they may replace equipment that is older than one year with brand new equipment.
There are a number of things you need to ensure you are covered against with sports and as the world of sport is unpredictable, so is the coaching side. After acquiring your coaching badges the last thing you want is for anything to go wrong after all the hard work, time and money invested. Many sports can now be covered with a specialist policy including swimming coach insurance and gymnastics instructor insurance.
