Any Idea What These Symptoms Could Be? Irritated Throat And Pain In Left Side?

January 7th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »

I’ve been sick for like 6 weeks now. It started with me feeling like I was coming down with a cold. Then one night I started having chest pain and it felt like something was stuck in my throat. The next day I woke up with a headache, soar throat and really tired. I’ve also been having pain in the upper left side of my stomach it feels like something is pressing on my ribs and when I try to eat I can only eat small amounts because it feels like the food isn’t digesting. When I walk I start getting really out of breath and kind of dizzy. During the first week I was also having fevers and night sweats.
I’ve been to 3 different doctors a total of 4 times during september and they don’t know what’s wrong. The first doctor told me I have mono and gave me a cbc and urine test (but no actually mono test) which came back fine. When I went for the follow up visit they had me see a different doctor who said I don’t have mono and refused to test me for it because she said they only give the test if they REALLY think you have it and according to her I didn’t.
Then I went to a completely different doctor’s office and asked for the mono spot test, and they gave it but it was negative. So she gave me antibiotics, which haven’t helped. I’m still having pain in my chest and stomach left side my throat hurts on the right side, and when I look in my mouth I can see a white dot on my right tonsil. I’ve also been really tired and if I lay on the left side it hurts bad. It’s really worrying me and scarying me that I can’t figure out what’s wrong. I’m only 23 and I’ve never been sick this long before. It’s also strange because I was fine before and it seems like the symptoms came out of nowhere.

    Hi Pumkin Pie,
You are doing all the right things. Please reconsider NOT seeing other doctors. When you have a regular doctor he knows you, your blood and biochemistry, your medical history etc so it is usually best to stick with him/her.
When tests come back negative it does not mean you are lying to the doctor. It means that what you and the doctor suspected is not the problem. So it is time to do more research/tests (for the doctor) and it is time to do more soul searching for the patient. Are there signs and symptoms which you may not have noticed or may not have mentioned to the doctor? Are there signs and symptoms which you may have missed?
You are an obviously healthy person. Is there a possibility that there are psychological stressors which are causing “medical symptoms.”
Changing job, new relationships, new environments (house) moving house etc can sometimes cause these type of symptoms.
Good luck. Sorry this is the extent of my knowledge.

STRESS can cause any number of symptoms, &/or, magnify those already present, though perhaps unoticed beforehand . . .

    Have you considered:
    – getting a restraining order on your husband?
    – calling your soon-to-be x’s aunt to see whether she is aware that he transferred the title to your car from your name to hers?
    – getting some legal council, even if from a legal-divorce clinic?
I once knew a young family for a short while, who had moved to my neighborhood in the hopes that they would be able to jump-start their marriage, & start fresh. But, apparently the problems they’d been having weren’t entirely left behind . . . She worked nights at a bank, & one night he was seen from the upstairs windows, slashing the tires to her only transportation. I don’t mean to frighten you, but this kind of behavior can escalate . . . This is why I mentioned the possibility of getting a restraining order.

Go back to your doctor. Request a throat culture on the white spot on your tonsil to rule out Strept throat, then request a chest xray. You have pain in your chest and upper abdomen, get winded when walking and can’t eat which all sound to me like a pneumonia or something similar.
    Good luck.
