The chest pain you are having does not sound typical of heart pain, but sometimes people can present atypically with heart pain. There are many causes of chest pain. These include angina (heart pain), heartburn, spasm of the esophagus, lung issues, musculoskeletal issues, etc. Chest pain caused by heart issues usually is described as being midline or left sided, pressure like, and it may radiate to the jaw or left arm. Classically, it is worse with exertion, improved with rest and nitroglycerin. Chest pain associated with belching is typically caused by problems in the GI tract, the esophagus or stomach. People do not always have the typical symptoms of cardiac (heart) chest pain. It is important to look at someones risk factors for having heart disease. If someone is low risk for heart disease and has atypical symptoms like you do, then it is very unlikely that it is due to a serious heart condition. A person that is high risk for heart disease should be evaluated for heart disease even if their symptoms are atypical. It sounds like your chest pain may be from indigestion or heartburn and this can be relieved with antacids, H2 blockers (Pepcid, Zantac etc.) or a PPI (Prilosec/Omeprazole). If you have risk factors for heart disease, then your doctor may want to evaluate you further. Discuss this with your doctor. I agree with the advice to stop smoking though for your overall health.
That could be one reason, stop smoking. Another is hital hernia, the stomach gas and acid is backing up into the esophagus. Another is angina, the problem with the heart, can be a number of reasons here. You’d have to have Series of ekg’s and stress tests, it could save your life though. Some cardiologists won’t look at you if you smoke. Think about it.
