Chest Pain, But Only One Side, Concurrent?

February 28th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »

recently i somehow caught the flu (or i have symptoms like the flu) on my right lung (when i cough, my lung shakes or trembles). lately a very annoying pain comes up on my right pectoralis, it hurts a little when i breath, and it does hurt when i stretch the muscle in a certain way. what could it be?

Your description is consistent with a muscle or ligamentous sprain/bruise – if you have been coughing quite significantly, then this is probably the cause.
Pain that arises when you stretch the muscle in a certain way, or press on it in a particular spot, is good news – this indicates that the source of the pain is superficial and not from a deeper structure such as the heart or lung, which would cause more concern.
Flu symptoms are usually generalised (headache, fevers, runny nose, sore throat, cough), and cannot generally be localised to one lung, though.
