I Had A Pacemaker Implanted About 4 Weeks Ago I Started Experiencing The Same Symptoms Two Days Ago!?

February 24th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »

I had a pacemaker implanted because my heart rate was irregular and in the low 30′s I was experiencing chest pain, dizziness, etc. Two days ago I started experiencing the same symptoms, my blood pressure is way too high even with my med and I’m waiting on a call from my doctor, can a pacemaker malfunction this soon?

The problem can be anywhere right from pacemaker or to the electrodes. Better talk it with your consultant immediately.

It’s unusual (but not unheard of) for a pacemaker to malfunction so soon after being implanted. My guess is that it may be set incorrectly.
Still, plan to see your doctor, and perhaps go by your pacemaker clinic. They can check it and make any adjustments. If it is programmed wrong, they can reprogram it through the skin by using a magnet. It’s painless!
(That is why they tell you to avoid magnets if you have a pacemaker. The magnet could accidentally reprogram or damage it.)

yes a pacemaker can even malfunction within days! it is a machine and we should never think about machine and results… we treat symptoms only! ok
go and see your physician as soon as possible

This has been going on for 2 days? What made you wait so long? check your heart rate. Depending on your heart rate and how high your BP is, you may need to go to the ER if your doc doesn’t call back soon.

It sounds like you need to see your cardiologist. They can check your pacemaker very easily to make sure it’s working properly. It also records what’s been going on with your rhythm. It’s unlikely that it’s malfunctioning, but certainly is not impossible.
It could be something else causing your symptoms too. Let us know what your doc says!!
