Minor Chest Pain That Comes And Go For Days~ What Could It Be?

October 4th, 2009 by admin Leave a reply »

My friend is 29, male, normal weight, a light smoker and drinks about 2-3 nights a week. He’s been having this chest pain since a few days ago that’s predominantly on the upper left side (towards the center) and extends to the back. He’ll be in for a checkup very soon but before that happens, does anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks a lot!

I have been a Critical Care Paramedic for 10 years – LISTEN TO ME!!
Your friend is young, but he drinks and he is a smoker – he is not safe from heart disease. The fact that he has this pain that extends to his back, he could very possibly have an aortic dissection.
When it comes to chest pains (of any kind, no matter how severe), you should never take a chance.
Have your friend take (2) aspirin and he should go immediately to the hospital.
Besides the fact that I’m a paramedic, my husband is 28, a US Marine (so you know he is in shape), a non-smoker and casual drinker. Last summer, he experience similar chest pains to your friend for a few days before he told me about it. When he did tell me about it, I took him to the emergency room immediately. Long story short, he was having a Cardiac Cath done within 3 hours and suffered a mild heart attack.
Don’t mess around with cardiac symptoms – Your friend doesn’t want to wind up with permanent cardiac damage because he waited too long to go to the hospital.
Either call 911 or take him to the hospital. Don’t wait to go tomorrow.

This could be many things. If there is any reason to believe it is his heart get him to your local ER. DO NOT WAIT IF IT COULD BE HIS HEART.

This is a question for an actual doctor. Get the boy to an MD soon and quit screwing around with Yahoo!

Sounds like it might be bad gas. He should still go to the doctor just to be sure though.
