Should I Be Worried About A Pain In My Esophagus/throat/chest When I Swallow?

January 13th, 2010 by admin Leave a reply »

I’m experiencing a type of pain when swallowing anything. It’s in a very specific spot and has not moved at all it’s chest high on the right side of my body but in the center kinda. What I can akin this too is the feeling of when you eat peanut butter and it gets stuck in your throat kinda. Only instead of it being right in the back of my throat, it’s further down. (not sure if the throat extends through this spot or not tho) I’d say the spot is about halfway between my sternum and nipple amd the pain happens whenever what I swallow passes it. There are no other symptoms that I have noticed. This is day 2 or 3 that I’ve felt this.
I’m 26 years old and very fit.
should I be worried about this and go to a doctor? I am seeing an ENT on friday morning for something else(ear) but unless this sounds urgent I’ll wait until then and ask her.

had identical symptoms years ago. acid reflux, when can run in families, caused erosion in esopphogus(ulcer) and when swallowing food hits that spots it really hurts and then after food passes by it eventually stops. My got real painful. Went and had it scoped and saw for self the ulcerated spot. Started on meds, cleared it up. But you need to keep an eye on it because it could turn into something much worse like cancer. Get it checked out. I am sure your ENT will tell you the same thing.

Do you feel like you are going to choke on your food when you eat? Does it feel like your food is getting stuck in your espophagus? Because….your symptoms sounds like what my mother experienced. She needed her esophagus “stretched”. It is a minor outpatient procedure. It can be hereditary too.

I don’t think I would wait until Friday. It could be anything, maybe something is stuck there, something you ate. Anything with my throat and choking scares the hell out of me thats why I wouldn’t wait, But maybe you should call the ENT’s office and tell them what is going on and they may fit you in sooner. Good luck

I would totally go see a doctor as soon as you can. There could be something lodged in your esophagus.

You should go to the doctor now. This sounds like a serious thing to me, much more serious then your ear.
