So every now and then I get a sensation around my sternum that feels sort of like a stabbing, sharp pain. I can’t breath deeply without it hurting and sometimes even exhaling hurts. It usually lasts about 10-15 minutes and happens maybe 3 times a month. My mom said it sounds like heartburn, but I’ve had heartburn and it feels nothing like this. I’m not too worried right now because I can usually continue with my daily activities without too much trouble, however it’s becoming more frequent. Any ideas?

Those pains can be from a couple different things. One, stress will cause chest pain, I used to get them all the time and every time I tried to breathe it would hurt so bad it scared me half to death. Once the stress was under control the pain stopped. Another thing that can cause it is pulled muscles in your chest. Feels like you are having a heart attack with either stress or pulled muscles. If your stress is under control try putting heat on your chest or taking a hot shower when the pain is bad and see if that helps. You can also try a couple of Tylenol and see if that helps the pain. It doesn’t sound like heartburn or heart problems.
One of the easiest things we can do to help ourselves is to keep a log of when things happen to us and what we were doing when it had it’s onset. The root of our problems can sometimes easily be seem once we have a log, i.e., that when you reached for something, when you bent over for something, all of this can help explain the rest. I had no idea of some of my problems once and then a chiropractor told me to keep a log. In a few days it became evident of what I would do that would set thing off. It made it easy to go for the fix then.
