What Could Be Causing My Stomach Pain, Weight Loss And Other Symptoms?

October 19th, 2009 by admin Leave a reply »

I have been sick for over a year, without a diagnosis. If anyone else has had similar symptoms, I’d be interested in knowing the diagnosis.
Initial Symptoms:
Severe stomach pain, unrelated to eating or bowel movements, worse while in a seated position; Significant weightloss without dieting; Intermitant chest pain; Frequent fainting and dizzy spells; Severe and chronic fatigue.
These symptoms have persisted, and new symptoms have developed:
Headaches; mental confusion and inability to concentrate; nausea and vomiting, expecially after eating white flour, red meat, fats and refined sugar; muscle aches; upper back pain and chest pain when sitting or standing; decreased dexterity and strength in fingers; increasing physical weakness, such that I need a cane to walk short distances.
Doctors have ruled out cardiac problems, chrones disease, thyroid problems, Addisons, Diabeties, celiac disease. There are no visible physical abnormalities on abdominal CT.
Does this sound familiar?

How have the doctors ruled out coeliac disease if it’s just the blood test it isn’t 100% reliable, you should have had a biopsy taken from you small intestine (or bit just before it but after you stomach, I forget what it’s called).
I’d say your symptoms are assoiated with malnutrtion which in a coeliac (like me) eating gluten errodes the lining in the small intestine.
Also look at possible problems with your pancreas, chronic pancreatitas would alos cause these problems

similar symptoms by any of us would not constitute a diagnosis re: your problem/s!
have Dr`s ruled out being a hypochondriac or `symptoms` being psychosomatic?
you`ve put up with for over a year?
you`re not dead yet-at least from neck down!
i don`t wish to be in any way offencive but`so many` symptoms and yahoo answers is not the place to ask such complex medical maladies!
see a GP-then ask him for a referral re: a psychiatrist!
again i`m not being funny/offencive-mental/emotional problems can cause/be symptomatic of physical illness!
well do you not think it strange that with knowledge/science of today-that Dr`s/hospital? have come up with nothing?
    i would have had a stab at ? angina and emphysema-but i`m not a qualified doctor-so go see one and `talk straight` to him/her!
best of luck-i`m NOT saying there`s nothing wrong-i don`t presume either way!

Doctors can only check for physical and it seems that they have done all they can.
So the next step is mental, it could be you are suffering from anxiety, often floating anxiety.
It is amazing how powerful it is.
Please have a look on the Internet for symptoms of anxiety you will be surprised how many of yours fit the bill.
    I wish you well. Terry.

I read a book about someone with similar problems. I wish I could find out the book’s name. Oh! “The Maker’s Diet”. The man who wrote this book suffered from something similar. He just changed his diet around, and became healthier. I’m not lying or making this up. I cannot believe I’m reading about a similar problem with another person.
He cut out red meats, and pork. He began to eat whole grains – bread, cereal, etc.
I looked it up, and apparently its a form of Crohn’s he had. He did have most, if not all, of the “symptoms” and problems you seem to be having.
Maybe you could check out the book in your local library instead of buying it, first.
Edit: DR’s practically ruled out the same diseases, too, btw, and his father was one of the DR’s.
2nd Edit: I do agree it sounds similar to IBS. Have they checked for GERD, or Gluten “allergies”?

Wide arrays of non-specific symptoms like these sound reminiscent of heavy metal poisoning. I’m not a doctor, so I couldn’t say which metal might be the culprit. However, metal poisoning is known for producing a wide array of symptoms which differ for different people.
You should talk to your doctor and ask about this.

Some of it sounds like gall bladder symptoms. I have had some similar symptoms after eating those same foods. I had to have my gall bladder removed.
Can you go to better doctors? Maybe a better hospital?
Are you sure it’s not some kind of poisoning?
Have they tested your gall bladder?

the symptoms you’re describing are exactly what my cousin had, turns out she was having liver problems. Ask your doctor for a liver function test to rule it out.

Ask your doctor to check helminth infections (parasitic worms).

There are other condition that can cause stomach and digestive problems other than Chrohn’s. No one knows what a friend has. He has to be very careful about what he eats.
Why not look into food allergies. You could have a wheat allergy. Try to find a place that can test for food allergies. (good luck in finding one). Someone I know with food allergies had some of your symptoms for years and felt wonderful after eliminating all wheat. You can eliminate all wheat – unless whole wheat, etc. doesn’t bother you, red meat, refined sugar and reduce your use of fat with Pam and something like I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter (which I really like). Since you mention so many symptoms after eating these foods, your problems have to have a connection to food.
You sound like the people on Discovery Health TV who have gone to many doctors over many years and finally find someone who diagnoses a little-known syndrome.

go to WebMD and type your symptoms in on their symptom part of the site and you can get some ideas
