I have been getting an awful pain in my upper chest and upper back, it hurts to take a deep breath, and nausea. It happens about once a month for about 4 days, 3 to 5 hours each time. I have seen doctors for other problems and they don’t listen and blow me off. I don’t want to waste my time looking for one to help me, so if anyone knows about this please help. The more info I have the better I can communicate with a doctor. Thank you

Unlike what Dr. G said, most Doctors ARE idiots.
I am curious, have you tried to take anything to aleve the chest pain such as Advil or Aleve? Also have you tried taking an antacid to rule out heartburn and indigestion?
It could be pleurisy or pleuritis as well. This is when the pleural lining around your lungs decides to inflame and it is real bad pain and it can travel to your back. You can look it up but you might not find anything that describes it as i have because well i had it diagnosed as a child and puh, they were real casual about it and the Doctors won’t even acknowledge it today even though it bothers me now and again.
What i can say regarding the nausea is that when we are in pain, and alot of it, especially when our body “tenses” like this, mainly the chest area, we tend to wanna feel like or even throw up.
Also, you may be having the first signs of cholecycstitis or inflammation of the gallbladder. This will cause all the symptoms you are having as well.
The sad fact of the matter is i am in your situation right now, only with another “illness” and i have been in your situation in the past. And well, it seems that until we are in an “Emergency situation”, that is when the Doctors suddenly find out what is wrong and then there is a diagnosis and we are then believed.
i think that the problem must be caused by too much of acid in your blood, you need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate you take in.you also need to take in enough water.also the problem maybe due to stress.try to have rest everyday.
Regardless of your aversion to doctors, the fact of the matter is that they can save your life if you see them for the right thing.
It’s entirely possible that you are having a series of heart attacks. (And you’re saying, right now, “No, it’s not a heart attack – Why would I be having a heart attack?” However, denial is actually listed as an official symptom of a heart attack so get over it and go see a doctor before you have your last one.
Even if it isn’t a heart attack, something is wrong, and it could be very serious. Your upper torso contains most of your most critical organs. Your cardiopulmonary system is having problems or your spine is having problems. Either way, you’re in store for a life changing event – like death or a wheel chair – if you don’t get this looked at.
If you don’t like the doctors you’ve seen in the past, then go see a different one. Just do it.
You need to talk with your doctor again. If they have checked you out already then most likely they have ruled out heart problems – if not change doctors.
You need to ask them the following questions:
1. Do you have a Hiatus Hernia – this is where part of your stomach protrudes into the chest cavity. As it irritates the diaphragm it can cause chest pain and nausea. The upper back problem can also be part of this. The attacks can happen for a variety of reasons.
2. Is your Diaphragm irritated – the diaphragm has the same pain pattern as your heart. It can also cause nausea and is a common cause of upper back pain, espeically if your take a deep breath.
3. Are you suffering from anxiety – anxiety can also affect the diaphragm simulate heart problems, cause nausea and upper back issues.
4. Do you have some type of respiratory distress – asthma can cause similar pain patterns.
5. Do you have upper spinal issues – the spine in the area can also cause chest pain, if the ribs are tight then pain will increase on breathing and create nausea.
So go to your doctor with these questions and get them to rule each out, until a solution is found. IF they blow you off,go and find someone who will listen.
It doesn’t sound too serious, although the symptoms are distressing. Doctors are not idiots and if they thought it was serious then they would have looked at yor problem in more detail.
If you think your back is a problem, and it may be your lower back that also irritates the area, then visit this site for their free e-course for help – breathing techniques can also ease the diaphragm – but their free e-course is at http://www.back-pain-advisor.com/back-so…
We are not doctors, go see one.
Have them check your gallbladder or for a hiatal hernia.
You need to see the Doc. for that one particular problem…… they will then have to check things out. If you go see them for a hang nail, they are gonna treat you for a hang nail. one track minds. Otherwise, they will get your symptoms confused. (he he he im being a smartass) Really, make an appointment for upper chest and upper back pain. They have to check it then. I think it has to do with the billing and coding system. Its all about money!!!!$$$$$$$$$ Sad but true!
This kind of sounds like my asthma attacks. I don’t wheeze usually, but my chest feels like it’s on fire, and I have back pain. Does it feel better if you slouch forward? That’s pretty classic with breathing problems. Either way, go see a doc! If yours won’t listen to you take an outspoken friend (my husband makes sure they listen to me when I’m feeling embarrassed or don’t want to seem pushy), or find anew doctor that will listen! Go to a clinic or the ER if you have to, but get help. The other posters were right, chest and back pain are heart attack signs. You need to take it seriously, and force the doctor to listen to you.
Good luck!
Hmmm, how old are you?
They are certainly symptoms of heart troubles. I’d recommend a doctor, I can’t imagine them blowing you off with these symptoms although the extended period they presented for without getting worse is odd.
Hi, my grandma had something a little like this but with out the nausea , later on it was found to be breast Cancer so i the pain is to one side of you chest go and get it looked at
Hopefully its not it could be you might have a small irritation in the lung of something simple
