i want to get a tattoo across my chest in the next couple of months and i was wondering if this would matter. some people say it would significantly change the amount of pain, and some say it would hurt the same no matter what.

Depends on the person. More muscle could or could not be more painful. I have heard both ways.
I’m sure if your really skinny it would hurt a lot more than if you had a little muscle. But nerves are still what make you feel pain etc. I’m not for sure but thats my thought on it.
your going to feel pain no matter what is all about how tough you are and how well you deal with pain.
Unless you have no chest muscle and can see your ribs through your chest, having a centimeter more muscle than before isn’t going to make any difference in regards to pain.
it wont really hurt. it just kinda sends a shaky feeling through your body when the needle hits the bone. you’re not gonna change anything by building muscle.
I agree with the person who said if pain is a real concern that you shouldn’t get the tattoo. The pain really is more hype than fact, and the normal endorphin response alleviates much of the ouch factor.
On the other hand, you might just be curious, and that’s good. I don’t have work on my chest, but I do elsewhere including areas with a fair amount of muscle mass. I have disagree that it won’t matter; tattooing over bone is definitely more painful than even a little muscle tissue if the work on my arm & back is any indicator. The general rule of fleshy areas being less painful have held for me.
A bigger problem is that you’ll miss out on at least a week at the gym while healing, and bouncing the barbell off your chest for bench will hurt with new ink for a little longer. I was able to get back to the gym in as little as 10 days, but boy, the tattooed areas really got my attention if I wasn’t careful.
Addendum: I’m thinking that the area in question probably has some muscle, right? Whereas going from thin & bony to some muscle will drop the pain quotient, going from normal to muscular won’t change that much (but still will some). This meant as a clarification of the above as opposed to a retraction…
If You are worried about the pain, My advice is: “DON”T DO IT!”
