Woken Up Last Night By Sharp “tearing” Chest Pain, Should I Be Really Concerned?

October 6th, 2009 by admin Leave a reply »

I am currently being evaluated for autonomic dysfunction. My doctor got me in with a neurologist, but that’s not till July. Currently, my symptoms best fit with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (also called Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome) and I also shown several signs of connective tissue disorder (possibly Ehlers-Danlos). Anyways, I was a normal guy until my symptoms had sudden onset in January. I’ve had chest pain before, but I’ve never been woken up by it. It lasted for a couple minutes and then subsided, but comes back when I take a deep breath. If it was a heart attack or aortic dissection/rupture then I’m pretty sure I would feel way worse than just chest pain. It’s on the left side, right over my heart and inward toward the edge of my sternum. Any ideas? Please no sarcastic answers, I’m already dealing with enough as it is.

Since your chest pain ‘comes back when I take a deep breath’, it would also be prudent to consider the possibility of a hiatal hernia.

it could be heart burn, but I think with all the other stuff you got going on you might want to call up your doctor

This is not a sarcastic response, ever hear of pleurisy, collapsed lung? Any pain chest or otherwise that wakes you up out of a sound sleep needs to be medically evaluated as soon as possible! Good Luck in your endeavors!

Since it subsided it sounds like Angina Pectoris. Its best if you perform a tradmill test with your cardiologist. It would most likely be “unstable” Angina bc there was no exertion before the episode. If this is the case, it might be wise to see with your doctor if you should take Baby asprins everyday, and possible have Nitroglycerin in handy to dilate your arteries in case this happens again. Im no Doc… so ofcourse my best advise is a consult.

Get to a doctor NOW. Or if there’s no doctor available, go to ER. Don’t fool around with this condition.

if you are having left sided chest pain I would go to the Dr. Is the pain going down into your left arm? This could be a sign of angina of some description. Seriously, go to the Dr or hospital, it can’t hurt to get checked out and they wont mind, that’s what they’re there for.
    Good luck. xx

Well, don’t take this as sarcastic but due to your medical conditions, I would recommend that you see a physician immediately.
