Heart Health – Are You at Risk?

March 17th, 2010

With so many wanting to evaluate and monitor their health, it stands to reason that taking care of your heart is a good place to start.

In the past, it was common for patients to become very dependent on their health care providers to monitor and manage their health for them.In the last 10 years, people are making a shift to become more active in understanding their own health.

Those who monitor their heart health can lead long and productive lives. There are some helpful blood tests that you can acquire to evaluate your heart risks.

Cholesterol Test – This test, often called a lipid panel, is a group of tests to measure the amount of various blood fats that you have. This blood test includes analysis of your total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL and ratios.  This test is commonly performed as abnormal cholesterol levels can place you at risk for heart disease.

VAP Test – A more specific test is called the VAP test.It provides a much more detailed analysis of your cholesterol.By analyzing the sub particles of cholesterol, a more specific risk evaluation can be completed.Heart risk can be assessed by the VAP test since it evaluates smaller particles of cholesterol.

C Reactive Protein – Also called the CRP test, this blood test evaluates the amount of inflammation within your body.  Those with high levels of vascular inflammation are at higher risk of developing heart and vascular disease.

Hemoglobin a1c – The a1c test is a simple blood test that measures your blood glucose over a 2-3 month time frame. This gives you a better picture of your blood glucose levels over time.Pre diabetes and diabetes can develop in those with increased blood sugar levels.

This blood testing is a simple way to monitor your heart health. It is important to consult with your doctor if you discover abnormal test results. You can manage your heart health with knowledge and follow up.

Arthritis In The Chest What Are The Symptoms Pain Etc Places Pain Is Felt?????

September 10th, 2009

I don’t know whether or not it is possible to have arthritis in the chest, but in referrence to the ‘you have no joints there, so you can’t hav a joint disease there’ argument, you DO have joints there. A joint is any place where two or more bones meet. You even have joints in your skull, actually.
Arthirtis pain differs for everyone, but most often it is described as aching, burning, crushing, etc. (You should go to the Arthritis Foundation web site; they can give you a lot of information.)
There are other, similar conditions that can affect that part of the body and feel like arthritis. The first that comes to mind is fibromyalgia; one of the “tender point” pairs used for diagnosis is located in the chest near the collar bone.
If it is arthritis, your doctor can tell with a blood test; if it is something else, they’ll probably need a few more tests to know what it is.
