September 21st, 2009

All women are worried about their ability to prevent breast cancer. Each year so many women die of breast cancer. Every year researchers spend so much money trying to find a cure for breast cancer. Naturally, the best way of staying safe is to try to take every step possible to prevent breast cancer.

Omega 3 fatty acids and breast cancer prevention go hand in hand according to a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. While the results are still not conclusive, many additional studies since then also have indicated that there may be a connection. Omega 3 fatty acids can be found in fish oils and flax seed oil. They help the health of your heart and are wonderful anti-inflammatory compounds. The anti-inflammatory nature of this compound could be what helps to prevent breast cancer.

Omega 3s in your diet generally come from fish or flax seeds. Since most people consume minimal amounts of these foods, most people have a moderate omega 3 deficiency. This can be truly harmful in some aspects of your health. This can create serious cardiovascular problems or depression. In addition, in can really interfere with your immune system which makes you more sensitive to all kinds of health issues.

The auto-immune issue is where the researchers think that omega 3s can also help with breast cancer prevention. An anti-inflammatory agent could really help to calm down those cells that have gone “haywire”. If the cell is calm and doesn’t have the chance to start dividing uncontrollably, then cancer can be completely avoided.

Most people trying to prevent cancer will start taking a daily omega 3 supplement. So at the very least they give to a variety of aspects of their health, especially heart health and memory function. They are still researching whether the omega 3 supplements can actually help prevent breast cancer, but why not just be prepared?

I lost my job and insurance when I was diagnosed, so I don’t have easy access to doctors. Had a mammogram 6 months ago and it was clear.
