Can Taking Unnecessary Asthma Medications Cause Chest Pain And Shortness Of Breath?

February 8th, 2010

I found out this week that I have been misdiagnosed with asthma for the last 11 years. When I have an ‘attack’ I get chest pains like stitches all down my ribs which makes it very difficult/painful to breath out. I have been heavily medicated by my doctor since I was 12 I am now 19. Could these medications be the cause of my current symptoms? I have heard that too much oxygen in the blood can cause pain and cramping of the chest muscles. My doctor has said that my lungs function at about 120% during my breathing tests. Could it be that my lungs take in too much oxygen when I breathe faster such as when exercising and that is the cause of my ‘attacks’?

Chest Pain/dizzyness/shortness Of Breath & Headaches?

February 5th, 2010

For this past week I have been having these small headaches at the left and right extremes of my forehead. These headaches usually last 30 seconds, and then go away but come back again hour after hour. This is the first week I have had those headaches.
Later that week, I started getting really weird “chest” pain. I have MVP, but I have never experienced this before. The first two times, it came with exertion and was excruciating. If I moved, it hurt. It REALLY hurt when I breathed in. It got to the point when if someone tried to talk to me it would come out as a gentle whisper, and taking short breaths inbetween each word. After it first started for the day (usually 6th hour) it would last for the rest but not as much. It would just hurt if I moved into a different position. The pain ALWAYS started at my upper left rib cage and then stemmed to the left of my heart and sometimes by left shoulder blade. I can no longer predict when it comes, it is just random now and doesn’t hurt nearly as much.
Along with the two symptoms going on above, a third has appeared today. I will feel like the room is spinning really fast, and feel like I’m going to pass out (I haven’t passed out yet). Sometimes I get a little nauseous with it and get some shortness of breath. I’ve always had shortness of breath with any exertion, but it seems that when I get the dizzyness I also can’t breathe as well.
Kind of unrelated but I also have been coughing up yellow mucous since I was sick 2 weeks ago. Oh, and I am 15.
So the question is: Is this just MVP, a virus, or something else?

Chest Pain, Fatigue, Shortness Of Breath, Please Help!?

February 2nd, 2010

hello there fellow friends
i wanted to ask you all your advice on these symptoms i am having. first of all i am a 20 year old male and have been pretty health my whole life (no major problems or concerns) however, for about the past month now i have been having chest pain. most of the time it is in the left side of my chest and will be anywhere from the left side of my sternum to the mid to upper pectoral(breast) or down just below it. i also have stomach pains ever so often. I have noticed a lack of energy in my body and seem to be fatigued all day. it also seems like i am short of breath. it feels like there is something in my throat, but i know there is nothing there….so ya, i dont know what is going on. I ha had multiple EKGs and an echocardiogram a little over a year ago and both came back normal at that time. soooo i was hoping someone out there had the answer. thank you for reading this! i know it was long, but hopefully you can help!

Slight Chest Pain/shortage Of Breath?

February 1st, 2010

Hi!
I’m 25, student, rather athletic. I’ve been having slight chest pain, sometimes a burning feeling there and also slight shortage of breath. Not much coughing but sometimes a little phlegm. Also occasional pain in the upper back, not sharp but rather a feeling of discomfort. I think I have some form of gastritis, but this doesn’t feel like hearburn at all.
I’ve been smoking for the last couple of years but not regulary.
About a month ago I had the same symptoms and thought it was my heart, so I went to the hospital and they checked my heart, my lungs (x-ray), took blood samples and found nothing. The symptoms disappeared. Now they’re back. What can it be?
Thank you!

What Can It Be When You Have Shortness Of Breath Followed By Chest Pain?

January 20th, 2010

This has happened 3 times to my 5 year old. Once it was after excessive xercise and twice while just sitting. She complains of not being able to breathe and then tries to vomit. Afterwards she complains that her chest feels as if someone were gripping it from the inside. I’m getting worried. I will take her to see the doctor. For the meanwhile …does anyone know anything about this?
