What Causes Extreme Chest Pain?

September 16th, 2009

I occassionally get extreme stabbing pains deep in the upper left hand side of my chest. I’ve had them since I was about 13.
I have a very healthy heart(have had numerous tests) and am fit. I sometimes get low blood pressure and also have fibromyalgia.
I know that heart attack like chest pains are a symptom of fibromyalgia, but I’ve been getting them when my fibromyalgia is not bothering me and is ‘dormant’ so to speak with no other symptoms or apparent inflammation.
It’s an extremely sharp pain, like being stabbed or bones breaking and usually lasts for about thirty seconds, coming and going in waves. It hurts like hell and never ceases to scare me when it happens. After the initial pain wears off it still hurts a little.
Can low blood pressure cause it? Or what else could it be?

Arthritis In The Chest What Are The Symptoms Pain Etc Places Pain Is Felt?????

September 10th, 2009

I don’t know whether or not it is possible to have arthritis in the chest, but in referrence to the ‘you have no joints there, so you can’t hav a joint disease there’ argument, you DO have joints there. A joint is any place where two or more bones meet. You even have joints in your skull, actually.
Arthirtis pain differs for everyone, but most often it is described as aching, burning, crushing, etc. (You should go to the Arthritis Foundation web site; they can give you a lot of information.)
There are other, similar conditions that can affect that part of the body and feel like arthritis. The first that comes to mind is fibromyalgia; one of the “tender point” pairs used for diagnosis is located in the chest near the collar bone.
If it is arthritis, your doctor can tell with a blood test; if it is something else, they’ll probably need a few more tests to know what it is.

Could One Of The Fibromyalgia Symptoms Be Chest Pain ?

September 5th, 2009

If you have fibromyalgia, you may have noticed that you often feel intense pain in your ribcage and chest. This aching and stabbing pain is very common in fibromyalgia and can really impact on your enjoyment of life. If your chest pains are making it difficult for you to complete your work, get a good night’s sleep, or even breathe deeply, it is important to visit with your health care provider. Chest pain in fibromyalgia is usually nothing to worry about, but occasionally it can indicate other problems.
There is more information on this in the link provided. Good Luck :)

Lyrica Withdrawal Symptoms – Chest Pain?

September 2nd, 2009

I have been using Lyrica for fibromyalgia for 6 months. When I missed a dose I experienced severe withdrawal symptoms including high anxiety, inability to concentrate, and physical discomfort. I determined that I should wean off of it and with my Drs. permission began. Immediately I began experiencing chest pains which are now being evaluated by a cardiologist with an initial diagnosis of costochronditis. I have exercised for 33 years but cannot do more than walk across the room without chest pain. I changed nothing else when I began cutting back on my Lyrica dose. Has anyone else experienced similar chest pain/discomfort when trying to go off Lyrica?
