My grandmother and her niece have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickening of the heart wall). So there is a chance that I may have it, but I have not been tested (though there really isn’t a test, all they can do is see if you have the gene but that doesn’t mean you’ve expressed it). I have noticed that for several years I have experienced some of the symptoms of it:
-Chest pain or pressure that usually occurs with exercise or physical activity.
-Syncope (fainting) with HCM may be caused by irregular heart rhythms, abnormal responses of the blood vessels during exercise.
-Palpitations due to abnormal heart rhythms.
I’ve only experienced syncope and palpitations very rarely (maybe four times in the past 5 years) but the syncope is always after exercise.
My question is that I’ve been running for about a year and a half. I’m 17 years old, female, 5′ 4″ and 137 lbs. Sometimes when I’m running I’ll get sharp or throbbing pains in my inner upper arms going down to my elbow(continued)

Left Side Upper Abdominal Pain, Some Chest Pain??
November 29th, 2009Ok…a couple of months ago I started having chest pain (usually on the left side..and somewhat sharp)..used to have my left shoulder and arm hurt and so on…I went do a doctor, did my complete bloodwork, also an EKG (all normal)..Then I went to see a cardiologist and also did an EKG..and checkup – the cardio said It was nothing wrong with my heart (that should be a relief,no?)..Ok..After some time i started having upper pain in my back (also left side)..I went to a Radiologist…did an Xray and he told me I had a “walking pneumonia”-went to the doc and he gave me antibiotics to treat it. I haven’t finished the treatment yet, and now, even if I don’t have back pain or neck pain ..or arm pain anymore..Sometimes I still feel some pain in my chest (right or left side) and I am getting some upper abdominal pain in the center and left side (kinda like just under and below the ribs). I don’t smoke..I don’t drink..Don’t drink coffe…So? any ideas?

Why Do I Get Upper Chest Pain When I Am Running? And How Is It Prevented?
October 20th, 2009I am a 14 year old girl who does not have much experience with running and today was the first day of cross country practice. I normally get upper chest “cramps” on both sides right below my shoulder area. I get them fairly soon after i start running along with my side cramps/stitches. I have no idea why i get them. Also, does anyone have any suggestions how to get rid of them?
Why Am I Getting A Sharp Pain In My Upper Chest When I Breath And Work Out?
October 19th, 2009When I lift weights and work out I get this sharp pain in my chest especially during dips and other exercises that stress the chest. Even when not working out, I get the pain when I breath in deeply. The pain is more towards the right side of my body and it is pretty deep into the chest. I’m not sure if I’m getting this from a certain exercise that I have done or if it from something else.
Upper Right Chest Pain Above Right Breast?
October 14th, 2009I am currently experiencing a weird chest pain to the right of my sternum almost up to my neck line into my right breast. The slightest movement causes pain and if you press in a certain area, it hurts like hell. When I turn my head to the right or move my back, it also hurts. I am overweight and a smoker. I have a history of costochondritis and I know how that feels, but this is different and in a a different spot. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Please help. Thanks!
Throat And Upper Chest Pain. What Is It?
October 11th, 2009I woke up with a pain that goes from the middle of my throat to my upper chest, strait down the middle. It doesn’t hurt only when I breath, its just a random pain. There is no other symptoms. my throat and chest just hurts. No cough, headache or anything. Please help me find out either what it is or remedies. I have never had this pain before.

October 8th, 2009I had a spontaneous pnuemothorax about 7 years ago. The signs and symptoms were very different but I am still concerned. I haven’t done anything about it yet, in the hopes that it’s just muscular and will go away. The pain seems to travel back and forth between my back and chest, depending on my movements and positioning. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
